Accessibility & Compliance
Simple Movement provides accessibility and compliance support as part of our custom eLearning design, course development, and training solutions. We help corporations, colleges, universities, public-sector organizations, and not-for-profits create learning experiences that are accessible, inclusive, practical, and ready for delivery.
Our team integrates accessibility into the full eLearning development process, from discovery and instructional design through build, review, remediation, launch, and post-launch support. We can also scope dedicated accessibility audits, accessibility remediation projects, or staff training programs for organizations that need to strengthen internal accessibility practices.
Simple Movement can act as your behind-the-scenes eLearning, accessibility, and Training & Development team. For organizations that do not have in-house instructional designers, accessibility specialists, multimedia developers, or learning technology staff, we provide experienced support without the cost of adding permanent headcount.
To start a project, choose the service you need and submit our enquiry form or email us directly.
Accessibility & inclusive learning
We build all experiences accessibly, and our work is designed to provide representation and a voice for all learners.
Accessibility is treated as a design requirement from the beginning — not as a final compliance check.
Accessibility capabilities
Our accessibility capabilities can include:
- Accessible course architecture
- Keyboard-accessible navigation
- Clear text hierarchy and readable layouts
- Alternative text for meaningful visuals
- Captioning and transcripts
- Accessible multimedia
- Colour and contrast considerations
- Accessible interactions
- Clear navigation and wayfinding
- Plain-language design
- Alternative formats where required
- Accessibility testing and remediation
- Accessible documents and downloadable resources
Localization and multilingual accessibility
We plan for localisation during course design, with a budget for each language version.
Key considerations can include:
- Audience: required languages, literacy levels, job roles, and device access
- Content: plain language, consistent terminology, and examples relevant to employees’ work
- Translation: professional translation and review by someone familiar with the subject and language
- Media and layout: translated captions, narration, graphics, assessments, and space for longer text or right-to-left scripts
- Testing and maintenance: learner testing, completion tracking by language, and updates across every version
When localizing eLearning, accessibility requirements should be included in scope.
Ontario’s requirements vary by organization and whether the learning environment is public-facing or internal. Employee accommodation obligations also need consideration.
Standard agreement coverage (MSA and statement of work)
Our standard MSA and statement of work typically cover:
- Scope and delivery: deliverables, responsibilities, timelines, revisions, acceptance criteria, and change requests
- IP ownership: ownership of finished courses, editable source files, client materials, reusable assets, and third-party licences
- Confidentiality and data: protection of business information and handling of any learner data
- Warranties and support: agreed quality requirements, correction periods, and ongoing support
- Commercial terms: fees, payment dates, cancellation, termination, liability, and dispute resolution
Ownership transfer, source-file delivery, and warranty commitments should be confirmed explicitly in the signed agreement.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
We use Universal Design for Learning principles where appropriate to give learners multiple ways to access information, engage with learning, and demonstrate understanding.
| UDL dimension | Examples |
|---|---|
| Multiple means of representation | Text, visuals, audio, demonstration, and clear structure |
| Multiple means of engagement | Scenarios, examples, reflection, interaction, and applied activities |
| Multiple means of action/expression | Knowledge checks, decisions, assessments, and practical activities |
Accessibility in our development lifecycle
| Stage | Accessibility consideration |
|---|---|
| Planning | Audience needs, institutional requirements, and accessibility expectations |
| Instructional design | Structure, cognitive load, alternatives, and clear learning pathways |
| Visual design | Contrast, hierarchy, readability, and meaningful visual treatment |
| Development | Keyboard operation, focus order, semantic structure, and accessible interactions |
| Multimedia | Captions, transcripts, and equivalent information |
| Assessment | Clear instructions, accessible controls, and appropriate alternatives |
| QA | Functional accessibility testing and remediation before launch |
Accessibility remediation
We can review and modernize existing eLearning that is inaccessible, outdated, or difficult to use.
Remediation can include redesign, interaction replacement, document repair, captioning, navigation improvements, and course rebuilds when required.

Who We Work With
Simple Movement supports organizations that need practical, high-quality, and accessible learning solutions.
We work with:
Corporations looking to make employee onboarding, compliance training, leadership development, product training, or internal learning programs accessible to all staff. Colleges, universities, and academic institutions converting curriculum, continuing education, professional development, or workforce training into accessible online, hybrid, or blended courses. Not-for-profits and community organizations developing accessible training, outreach materials, public education resources, and capacity-building programs. When we say accessibility and compliance, we mean designing and building eLearning so that people with a wide range of abilities can access, navigate, understand, and complete training.
Accessible eLearning is not only about meeting a technical standard. It is about creating learning experiences that are usable, clear, inclusive, and effective for real learners in real workplaces, classrooms, and communities.
That typically includes:
Perceptual accessibilityClear layouts, strong colour contrast, captions, transcripts, meaningful visuals, readable text, and alternatives to audio, video, or image-based content.
OperabilityKeyboard navigation, logical tab order, accessible interactions, avoidance of unnecessary time-sensitive activities, and course structures that support learners using different devices or assistive technologies.
UnderstandabilityPlain language, consistent navigation, predictable layouts, clear instructions, accessible assessments, and alternatives to instructions that rely only on visual cues.
Compatibility with assistive technologiesSupport for screen readers, magnifiers, keyboard-only navigation, captions, transcripts, and other learner access needs.
Organizational and regulatory complianceAlignment with specified accessibility standards, procurement requirements, internal policies, or compliance targets when those requirements are identified at the start of the project.
If you have a specific standard you need us to meet, such as a WCAG target, internal accessibility checklist, procurement standard, or funder requirement, tell us up front so we can scope it into the project plan, testing process, and deliverables.
